locus: A fixed position on a chromosome, such as the position of a biomarker that may be occupied by one or more genes.

mutations: Changes within a gene that can be triggered spontaneously, inherited or caused by environment.

negative genetics test: When a genetics test reveals that there was no change in a gene, chromosome or protein under consideration.

newborn screening: The process of testing newborn babies for treatable genetic, endocrinologic, metabolic and hematologic diseases.

nutrigenetics: Research into the way that a person's diet, genes and lifestyle interact; or being able to use information from a person's genetic makeup to provide him or her with personalized diet and lifestyle advice.
